Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix is already making quite the splash. Tips are coming in from around the globe. People are sharing their theories on line. More importantly, the cases covered on Unsolved Mysteries are getting attention and that’s the most important thing for the families, to make sure their loved ones are never forgotten.

Still the reboot of the classic series does have some massive changes. We’re not just talking about the better production value either. Robert Stack hosted the original run of the series while Dennis Farina took over hosting duties for the subsequent revival.

Netflix’s version of Unsolved Mysteries does not have a host. According to EW, the show will never have a host.

Co-creator Terry Dunn Meurer said this was intentional. They could just never replace Robert Stack.

“I think that we thought long and hard about this and it was a tough decision to make. At this point, we feel like the decision was the right one. There’s nobody that could really replace Bob.”

He added that he also felt like a host would take away from the stories with the new format of the series as well, a focus on a single case over multiple cases.

“With this decision, we’re able to spend more time with the people in the stories developing them as characters so the audience can get to know them better. This is something we were never able to do before in the original episodes. There’s a lot of story content to cover and we never had enough time to spend with the characters in the stories.”

Given the prevalence of social media, Meurer doesn’t think update episodes are likely either.

“If something happens, it’ll happen very quickly if there’s big news because a case got solved. When we did the original episodes, we had 22-24 episodes per season. So if a case was solved in week three, we tried to get an update into the show in week four or five right away. Since now it’s not broadcast, it’s a different kind of animal. Trust me, the world will know if one of these cases gets solved.”

Unsolved Mysteries season 1, volume 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
