The untimely death of Chadwick Boseman earlier this year has left a huge hole in the MCU and among fans, which still can be felt. Something that will not change anytime soon, and which most likely will be felt even more once Black Panther 2 will hit theaters in 2022.
Though fans were wondering if the sequel to (one of) the best superhero movies of the MCU will still be happening after Boseman’s death was announced, The Hollywood Report has revealed in its newsletter Heat Vision that it will indeed happen, and that production is set to start in July 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia, where the first movie was mostly shot as well. Originally, it was planned to start production on Black Panther 2 in March 2021, and with the production start in July 2021, the studio only had to deviate from its original plan for a few months.
There is no doubt that the small delay is most likely due to Boseman’s death (and a raging pandemic), after all the studio had to figure out how to move on without King T’Challa, and (thankfully), they have already announced that they will not be using CGI to include him in the sequel. Yet, it makes fans wonder even more what is going to happen with the franchise.
Marvel and Black Panther’s director Ryan Coogler must have an idea, however, as the actor, Tenoch Huerta is apparently in talks to play the antagonist in the sequel, which sources have told The Hollywood Reporter. Huerta has become known to a larger audience for his role in the Netflix show Narcos: Mexico. At this point, it is unclear whom he will play, though, I am sure that fans of the comics already have their speculations.
Of the original cast, it is expected that Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett will all return for the sequel, as well as Martin Freeman. It is also rumored that Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, will have a more prominent role in the sequel and might even become the next Black Panther, after all, as King T’Challa’s sister, she is next in line to the throne.
Until we will get any more news on Black Panther 2, we will probably have to wait a bit longer until production is officially underway, and the release of the movie is getting closer. We at 4YE will, obviously, keep you updated on everything regarding it.
