Amber Riley is making her return to television with the starring role in NBC’s musical comedy, Dream.
Riley, best known for her role of Mercedes Jones on Glee, has had a busy post-Glee career. From nabbing an Olivier Award with her role of Effie White in the 2016/2017 West End revival of Dreamgirls to winning season 17 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, Riley has been busy big time.
In 2020, she self-released her first EP also called RILEY and got engaged to her boyfriend Desean Black. Now, she’s marking her television return in a big way with Dream, where she will star and executive produce.
According to TVLine, the “single-camera project follows a former teen mom, Dream Morgan (played by Riley), who turns her life upside down to pursue her dream of becoming a singer after her son graduates from college.”
Lisa Muse Bryant (black-ish) is set to pen the script and serve as showrunner. Neil Meron (The Wiz Live!) will executive produce.
Currently, the project is just in development at NBC. Given their success with Zoe’s Extraordinary Playlist? We wouldn’t be shocked if they decide to move forward with Dream.
