Melissa Benoist is on her way to becoming a Super Mom.
The 31-year-old star of The CW’s Supergirl took to Instagram to announce her pregnancy with husband, 31-year-old Chris Wood. The two met on season two of Supergirl and were married in Fall 2019. This will be their first child together.
In the post, Melissa and Wood posed with their two dogs. She wrote, “A non-canine child is coming to our family very soon!!! 😱😆😭 @christophrwood has always been an old dad by nature but now he’s going to be a real one!”
As fans of Benoist’s work on both Glee and Supergirl, we’d like to wish her and Wood a happy and healthy pregnancy along with an easy birth to their Superbaby. Congratulations to you both!
We seriously wish Benoist all the happiness in the world, especially when she came out as a survivor of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) back in Dec. 2019. With her successful career, new husband, and new baby on the way, we sincerely wish her all the joy that she is feeling right now.
Even with expecting parent, Benoist and Wood are primed to be busy working parents. Wood is set to start in the ABC series thirtysomething(else), which is sequel to the hit series thirtysomething. Benoist’s starrer Supergirl has scored a season six renewal back in January.
As for fans wondering how Supergirl will handle its star’s pregnancy. Well nothing is definitive yet. Though KryptonSite did say that Supergirl will only have a 20 episode fifth season. (Though this has not been confirmed by other sites, but makes sense to us given the staff probably had to know about the pregnancy.)
Add a shortened fifth season with the fact that people wait a few months to reveal their pregnancies and the usual mid-October premiere dates (meaning series start filming in July or August) for Arrowverse series, we don’t foresee missing too much Supergirl in Fall 2020. If not, we imagine a situation that happened when Benoist was on Broadway while production of Supergirl season four was underway. This is all speculation though. No one has given word on the plan at this time.
But Benoist’s baby may have another Arrowverse playmate as Danielle Panabaker, who plays Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost on The Flash, is set to have her baby sometime in April or May 2020.
Either way, we’re thrilled for Benoist and Wood and their little Superbaby.
Supergirl airs Sundays at 9/8c on The CW.
