Kate’s love life hasn’t exactly been stellar in the first two episodes of Batwoman.
With the revelation that her ex-girlfriend (and the one that got away) Sophie (Meagan Tandy) has moved on and gotten married, she’s not going to let it get her down. She quickly finds an interest in Reagan (Brianne Howey), who is a bartender at a party of Tommy Elliot (Gabriel Mann) that Kate attends.
Entertainment Weekly shares first look photos of Reagan and Kate. They do make a cute couples in an opposites attract sort of way.
On the new relationship, showrunner Caroline Dries had this to say. It actually sounds like Kate is handling this from a mature and adult perspective. While Dries wants the Sophie and Kate love story to be one of the focuses of the season, she doesn’t want it to be the only focus for Kate.
“We can expect to see Kate’s story get complicated by her. Kate realizes that Sophie’s got stuff to figure out emotionally and personally, and she’s not about to be a home-wrecker. So, she is just keeping her options open like anyone might [and] meets Reagan at this big penthouse housewarming party in Gotham.”
She also felt like it was important to show Kate in other romances as well.
“When we had a character who was so defined by her sexual orientation, just naturally by the press and what makes her unique, it was important for me that was a major part of the show and that we’re not shying away from it.”
Dries continues as to how Sophie figures into all this. Her reaction may be familiar for those of us who’ve seen an ex move on with someone else.
“She knows she doesn’t really have a right to be too opinionated about it because she has supposedly, on paper, moved on. But at the same time, she’s a woman with a heart and can’t help but feel stung, like, ‘I guess I passed up this wonderful, amazing person, and of course everyone else is gonna want to date her next.'”
