For those who have been wondering whether we had seen the last of Malcom Merlyn, played by John Barrowman, in the season finale of Arrow, fret not, as there is good news. It looks like everyone’s favorite super villain is here to stay and then some.

TVLine reported on Friday (July 8) that Barrowman, much like Wentworth Miller, has been upgraded to a series regular on all CW/DC shows produced by Greg Berlanti. Barrowman, if you recall, is already a series regular on Arrow, a gig which he is still keeping. This new deal for the actor now means that Malcolm Merlyn can now pop up on The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow as well.

Merlyn played a role during the setting up of Legends during a guest stint on The Flash last fall so it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see him wreak havoc on those two shows respectively. Fans of Arrow had begun to wonder whether Merlyn would be back for season 5 given that Thea has left Team Arrow, and she was pretty much the only reason for Malcolm to appear and cause chaos.

It is still unknown whether this new deal will include Supergirl as that show was just recently brought over to the CW.

With regards to Miller’s and now Barrowman’s epic series regular statuses, Berlanti had this to say back in May as far as why they elected to do this with Leonard Snart and now Malcolm Merlyn. “What it really emulates to us is the comic books themselves, where there really are a cast of characters. In success, we hope to continue with other characters finding their way across all the shows.”

Here’s hoping that Malcolm and Snart aren’t the only two that get this kind of promotion. Fingers are currently crossed that Nyssa Al Ghul, played by Katrina Law, lands this kind of deal as well.

The CW will roll out its fall premieres starting in October.
