Another Thanksgiving is upon us and while you all are stuffing your faces and enjoying your quality time with family and friends, I wanted to take a moment of reflection and give thanks on this momentous holiday.
First and foremost, I would like to say thanks for all things pop culture. It’s my life, my passion, my drive, my Raison d’être. It’s a world full of mischief, fun, love, tragedy, and everything in between.
Secondly, I would like to give thanks for my friends, colleagues, and wonderful staffers here at 4YE who join me in sharing our love of pop culture with the world and carving our little outlet of excitement for all those things.
Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank each and everyone of you all, our loyal readers, for reading our pieces, sharing them, and indulging along with us as we rant, rave, and fangirl/fanboy about all things in pop culture that excite us. We really couldn’t do any of this without you all, and it really wouldn’t be as much fun without you all, our readers, riding along with us.
There are many things in Pop Culture that one could be thankful for, and it would be pretty impossible to name them all so I, along with several staffers from 4YE, have taken the time to pick at least ten that really make our hearts sing.
Without much further ado, here are my ten things in Pop Culture that I am most thankful for! (All gifs are credited to Tumblr).
Oh Netflix, there are so many ways to count the ways that I love you, but I will keep it short and sweet. Thank you for being the ultimate time-waster, procrastination enabler, and best background noise possible. Also, thank you for being a binge watchers best friend and for having all my faves at my disposal.
Marvel > DC: all day, everyday. I could spend hours waxing lyrically about my love for Marvel but I won’t waste your time. Merely read my articles on here, and you will see what a diehard Marvelite I am.
- Tom Hiddleston
My admiration and respect for this classically trained British thespian also knows no limits. I have poured my heart and soul into the pieces I have written about this wonderful entertainer and overall, wonderful human being. He’s definitely one to keep an eye on at all times, and it really has been a joy to watch his career take off.
- Joss Whedon
Ever since I watched Firefly many moons ago, Joss Whedon has been my guy. Now as I watch Buffy, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and The Avengers, Whedon is still my guy and will always be as he treats women and men as equals in everything does and is one of the best people on the planet with a wicked sense of humour to boot (check out his twitter!).
This is a music junkie’s dream program to use. Despite the drama with Taylor Swift, I will never give up using this program to stream music as a paying customer because it has opened me up to new music to love and holds all of my favorite songs to boot.
- Shonda Rhimes’ TGIT
My latest addiction on television. Shonda Rhimes’ Thursday night lineup is to die for and has me at the edge of my seat each week. Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How To Get Away With Murder are must sees in my household.
- Hunger Games Trilogy
I have been in love with this trilogy for almost five years now, and it saddens me that it is coming to an end soon. It introduced me to Jennifer Lawrence, my spirit animal, and I am beyond thankful for that (also super thankful that it added Natalie Dormer, my other spirit animal, to the mix). This trilogy has the best of the best in the entertainment world and is a haunting reminder that humanity is not all it’s cracked up to be.
- The Hobbit Trilogy
Lee Pace, Orlando Bloom, Sir Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Luke Evans are all in this trilogy based on the wonderful writing of J.R.R. Tolkien. Need I say more?
- Game of Thrones
I’ll be honest; I just recently got into this hit drama not too long ago, and it is safe to say that is one of my favorite shows of all time already. Firstly, it has Natalie Dormer in the cast, which if you read my Hunger Games part of the list, you know that she’s a fave of mine. Secondly, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister is the best thing on the planet (give him all the awards please). Third, the plot lines will have you on the edge of your seat as you beg to find out what’s going to happen next. Have I mentioned the strong female characters heavily featured on the show? Always a win when you have those!
- Comic Con
Going to San Diego Comic Con was high on my bucket list. This past year, I made it a reality, and I am beyond grateful that I had the opportunity to make the trip and my dream come true. It truly is Nerdvana and a place for people like me to meet others who share their passion for all things nerdy and fun. Not to mention, every year has a surprise and you never know what to expect when you get there. Remember when Tom Hiddleston cosplayed as Loki? Really cannot wait to do it all over again next year!
Please check back with us all day when you need a break from feasting to see what other 4YErs are thankful for this year!
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
