It seems like 4YE favourite Tom Hiddleston is not looking to slow down any time soon. Already this year, Hiddleston has wrapped on Crimson Peak and Highrise and he is about to start filming the Hank Williams biopic I Saw the Light, and today Legendary Entertainment has announced that the British star has signed onto another project with them.
At SDCC this year, Legendary Pictures announced that they would be producing a film based on the cinematic background to the classic movie King Kong. The film which will be called Skull Island will be released on November 4, 2016. The script for the project has been drafted by Max Borenstein and today the film company have announced their first star and the film director.
That’s right Tom Hiddleston has signed on to star in the movie which will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. According to Legendary Entertainment Skull Island will present viewers with an alternative view of the classic story which many people are aware of thanks to the number of film adaptations there have been over the years, most recently Peter Jackson’s version in 2005. By concentrating on the story behind the movie it will allow the film makers the ability to explore “this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.”
This is not the first time that Hiddleston has worked with Legendary, as they are the film company behind the Guillermo del Toro upcoming Gothic horror film Crimson Peak. Director Vogt-Roberts has previously worked on the Sundance favourite The Kings of Summer, as well as working on the computer game series Metal Gear Solid.
This sounds like an extremely exciting project and any opportunity to see more of our favourite actor is always welcome. There is no confirmation of what role Hiddleston will play in the project, or when filming on the project will commence. We will of course bring you any news as soon as we receive it, and I know that quite a few of us here at 4YE can’t wait to buy our tickets to Skull Island.
