In 2012, director James Watkins scared us (well me definitely) silly with his dark and creepy adaptation of Susan Hill’s Gothic-style novel, The Woman In Black. The story back then centred on Arthur Kripps (Daniel Radcliffe) and his experiences at Eel Marsh House. I watched most of it with my head under a blanket and tightly gripping my teenage son’s hand. I already have an active imagination, so this type of stuff scares the living bejesus out of me.
I hope my blanket is ready (I know teenage son is) as a forthcoming sequel, The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death, which is directed by Tom Harper (The Borrowers, Misfits), is currently being filmed and they have released a teaser trailer….. I’d watch it with all the lights on, in the day… no you cannot use my blanket. Did I mention I get scared easily?
Set 40 years after the first tale, during the Second World War, Eel Marsh House has been taken over by the government and converted into a military mental hospital. The Woman in Black strikes once again as patient after patient falls victim to her. A young nurse at the House, Eve (Phoebe Fox) quickly discovers that it’s not just the patients’ mental demons that she has to try and save them from.
Meanwhile, Helen McCrory (Skyfall, Hugo) stars as a teacher who takes refuge in Eel Marsh House with some children she is looking after. The children having been evacuated from London. Could there arrival have anything to do with the terror that has been unleashed in the House?
The film also stars Phoebe Fox, Jeremy Irvine, and Oaklee Pendergast.
The Woman in Black: Angel of Death is set for release in February 2015. Will make sure the blanket is ready!
