Summer is slowly coming to an end (or at least, it seems like it). For awhile, it looked like we were not going to get our Movie of the Summer, that one film that unites everyone and has the world on its feet, cheering as they leave the cinemas.
And then Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy hit theaters, and all was right with the world.
Marvel has done it again, delivering the movie of the summer, that has united audiences everywhere. It is not an exaggeration either.
Take a stroll down any one of your social media networks, and see what people are talking about. Chances are that you will run into something Guardians of the Galaxy related.
The film is currently sitting quite fresh at the top of Rotten Tomatoes’s movie rankings with a 92% rating with good reason. James Gunn put together one hell of film, the perfect combination of music, action, comedy, suspense, and thrills. The twist and turns of the film gave audiences the ride of their lives.
The chemistry between the cast is brilliant. Chris Pratt is quickly becoming everyone’s favorite guy. Lee Pace is winning tons of love for his turn as quite the baddie Ronan the Accuser. Mr. Pace, remind me never to get on your bad side.
Have I mentioned the movie’s soundtrack yet? You’ll find yourself wanting to get up and dance along with Pratt’s character Peter Quill to some of the best music of the 70s. As one of my colleagues at 4 Your Excitement put it: It is a truly musical movie. The soundtrack is a perfect compliment to the scenes in the film, and you’ll find yourself rediscovering and falling back into love with the classics featured in the film. Who else besides me woke up after watching the film singing “Come And Get Your Love”?
All gushing aside, Guardians of the Galaxy was a much needed relief after the seriousness of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and a nice buffer as the next Marvel film on deck is what looks to be the uber serious Avengers: Age of Ultron (I’m still reeling over the footage shown at SDCC).
I highly recommend everyone going out to see it and for those who have already seen it, go again. I didn’t think it could get any better after the first time, but it really does.
Bottom line: Guardians of the Galaxy has a flawless execution from start to end. It was well cast, showed off amazing chemistry, and has an epic soundtrack.
Now time for some business:
“Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears…”
Well in this case, lend me your eyes as you need to read this.
