Johnny Depp and Kevin Smith; a likely odd duo

I for one love that Johnny Depp has always chosen his projects to suit himself, from big blockbusters like Pirates of The Caribbean down to indie quirky films like Jim Jarmusch’s Dead Man. Now it was revealed last week that he is now teaming up with director Kevin Smith to shoot Yoga Hosers.

Smith has an impressive list of quirky and off beat films. They include cult classics like Clerks and the Jay and Silent Bob series.

And it appears that the film will be somewhat of a family affair as both of their daughters, Harley Quinn Smith and Lily-Rose Depp, have also been cast to star.

Yoga Hosers, billed by Smith as a “comic-book movie” – even though it’s not in any way connected to a comic book – is the tale of how two teenage yoga enthusiasts, Colleen Collette (Depp) and Colleen McKenzie (Smith) team up with a legendary man-hunter, Guy Lapointe (Depp), to battle with an ancient evil presence that is threatening their major Grade 12 party plans. Oh and also their lives, though that appears to be secondary.

Yoga Hosers is the follow-up to Smith’s latest film Tusk, and all a part of his True North trilogy of movies; a series of films that draw on Canadian myths and culture.

Tusk will be premiering at the Toronto Film Festival in September and features a number of familiar faces that will also pop up in Yoga Hosers. In fact the entire Tusk cast, which includes Michael Parks, Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez, Ralph Garman and Harley Morenstein, will be appearing in Yoga Hosers.

Yoga Hosers will also see Tony Hale, Natasha Lyonne, Austin Butler, Adam Brody, Tyler Posey and Jason Mewes join in the shenanigans.

The trailer for Smith’s latest release Tusk was released at San Diego Comic-Con.

Yoga Hosers is set for release in June 2015.
