The X-Factor was definitely in need of a re-vamp, and the return of Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole was certainly a welcome change. Now Mr Cowell has announced that the fourth judge will be revealed sometime this week- and added that it will be a woman.

This will take the panel back to the usual 2+2 format, with Cole, Cowell and regular stalwart Louis Walsh being joined by…who? Well, we just don’t know. I’ve given up watching X-Factor in recent years, tired of the same boring format and sob stories and let’s face it, Strictly is so much more fun.  But it might just be that the right panel could lure me back…or at least make me Sky+ it so I can skip through the boring bits.

It could be that we see a return of Nicole Scherzinger, or maybe Sharon Osbourne (please God, no) but from the way Simon has been talking, it sounds as though it will be someone completely different.

“We’ve settled on someone,” Cowell said at The Health Lottery Tea Party. “We are going to make an announcement this week.

“We’ve decided… [but] we haven’t got the contract signed yet. It’s going to be a girl.”

Rumours are that it could possibly be Scary Spice Mel B, who was a guest judge on the show back in 2012, and is currently judging her second season of America’s Got Talent.

Well, as far as I’m concerned, they can keep her. You know I said the right panel could lure me back? Yeah, she doesn’t count as it.

Meanwhile, Cowell also said that while returning judges Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh don’t “get on great,” they are “just going to have to.”

Cheryl Cole has also revealed that she really put Cowell “through the wringer” before agreeing to return to the show, and who can blame her after the way she was treated?

“It took a few years for me to feel like it was right. I didn’t know if it ever would… but this time it feels right – again the time off really helped,” the Geordie star said.

X-Factor will return to our screens later this year.
