Top 5 Sebastian Stan Roles

While working at 4YE, myself and fellow writer Adrienne Tyler have grown to share a love for the Winter Soldier himself; Sebastian Stan. (Because, in fairness, why wouldn’t you love him?) So, after much fangirling on Twitter and many Facebook chats, plus the green-light from our boss, we are proud to bring you our countdown of Top 5 SebStan Roles!

5) Blaine (Hot Tub Time Machine)

Blaine is your stereotypical jock/bully in this film but Sebastian manages to still make this role his own. From the title; Hot Tub Time Machine you wouldn’t imagine the film would be any good, but it is very funny! This role is different from the previous ones we have seen Seb do, as it is purely a comedy and everyone knows it! Plus, with the awesome 80’s hair and fashion, it is one of those films that is so bad it is actually good.

4) Will Franklin (Labyrinth: Mini-series)

I’ve  actually read the novel Labyrinth by Kate Mosse and LOVED it, and although I’m not a huge fan of the mini-series (let’s not go there) but to me, Sebastian was perfect as Will.

Although Will isn’t tortured as Bucky/Winter Soldier or lonely like Jefferson, he is going through his own troubles, basically traveling around Europe, living in Paris and trying to write his book but unsure of what he is going to do next. But this is definitely a “lighter” role, compared to those mentioned below, as he isn’t near the drama of the show until the very end.

It is still perfect casting as Will, compared to certain other roles in the show…

3) TJ Hammond (Political Animals)

I feel this character in my bones. In this mini-series back in 2012, Sebastian portrayed the addict & homosexual son of a family immersed in politics (dad is a former President and mom is the Secretary of State). Can you feel the drama already?

TJ Hammond (or as I call him, ‘baby Hammond’), is the type of character you want to protect at all costs, all thanks to Sebastian’s incredible acting skills that make you feel TJ’s pain and need to be loved. I don’t excuse his drug abuse but I totally understand why he did what he did. Just please let me hold this boy.

2) Jefferson/ Mad Hatter (Once Upon A Time)

The role of Jefferson/Mad Hatter was the first role I saw Sebastian Stan in and it kills me that he isn’t in OUAT very often! There is so much potential for his character and many unanswered questions about his back story that still need to be explained (Grace’s mother anyone?) But fear not dear readers, because when Sebastian is in an episode it is like he never left! There is one scene in Season 2 where there is so much emotion and love you can feel it. I’m not going to lie, I have cried over this man many, many times

1) Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)

After all, it was his role as Steve Rogers’ best friend and HYDRA’s super soldier which made the Standom bigger and stronger! I’m pretty sure I was not the only one who shrieked when Bucky fell on Captain America: The First Avenger and we assumed he died. I may or may have not shed a few tears… okay, a lot of tears.

On Captain America: The Winter Soldier not only did we fall hard for Bucky Barnes- now Winter Soldier, but we saw a new level of SebStan’s acting skills, as he is wearing a mask covering half his face during most part of the movie, letting us only see his eyes, which is enough to make us feel the winter Soldier’s pain, confusion and loneliness.
It  turned us into a ball of feels and we are still not over it.

Of course we have to mention all the physical acting he did with all those incredible stunts and action scenes against Captain America. We salute you, Sebastian.

That’s basically why Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier is our #1 Sebastian Stan role.

Even though Sebastian’s filmography is not long, believe us when we say that it was not easy to choose 5 roles and put a number to each, but watching his tv and film work was a delight!

Whether we laughed because of that sweet jacket he was wearing in Hot Tub Time Machine, cried because of Jefferson or TJ, or curled up in a ball of feels because the Winter Soldier doesn’t remember who Steve Rogers is, there’s no doubt that this Romanian man knows how to act.

If you were already in the Standom, we hope you enjoyed this list as much as we enjoyed writing it. If you just joined, then welcome! We highly recommend you watch the shows and movies mentioned above in order to expand your Stan-love.

You don’t think this is over, do you? We have something else prepared, so keep your eyes open!
