New Trailer Released For The Falcon And The Winter Soldier

The trailer for the new Disney+ series ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ premiered at the Super Bowl on Sunday last week. The show is due out in March and will follow the antics of two characters from the Captain America strand of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers franchise – Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon, (Anthony Mackie).

The snippets offfootage released at the weekend gave few hints as to how the main story will play out, beyond highlighting tensions between the two heroes’ different approaches to their calling. However, there were signs that the show will expand the coterie of villains within the MCU.

Notably, the German-Catalan actor Daniel Bruhl, famous for his roles in Goodbye, Lenin and Inglorious Basterds, looks set to feature in the series as Baron Helmut Zemo, a former member of the Sokovian Special Forces who blames the Avengers crew for the death of his family during the battle with Ultron.

The group ULTIMATUM, a long-standing presence in the Marvel comics, will also make their first appearance on screen in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Funded by the villain Red Skull, they are an anti-nationalist group that in the comics serves as a foil to the uber-patriot Steve Rogers (Captain America). Alongside this, Red Skull’s reach looks set to extend further with the presence of his daughter Sin (played by Erin Kellyman, notable for Solo: A Star Wars Story), whom the comics show to have inherited her father’s evil and vindictive nature, and from the trailer looks set to have joined forces with ULTIMATUM.

US agent John Walker, played by Wyatt Russell, will be an antagonist, bearing a history from the comics as a fascist-sympathiser who had previously spearheaded a campaign of disinformation about Captain America’s intentions.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be released on Disney+ on March 19.
