Netflix’s next docu-series will be about one of the great unsolved mysteries of the Internet, the tragic death of Elisa Lam at the Cecil Hotel (since renamed the Stay on Main but it’s the Cecil). Now Joe Berlinger, in a four part series called Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel, will deconstruct Lam’s baffling case.
According to Variety, the series will “deconstruct what really happened to college student and tourist Lam, who stayed at the Cecil Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles in February 2013. When Lam vanished, leaving behind all of her possessions, including her wallet and ID in her hotel room, it ignited a media frenzy and mobilized a community of internet detectives who had suspicions about the last-known security camera footage released of her, as well as of some of the other people staying in the hotel.”
Interviews with hotel staff and guests will be featured along with some detectives who worked on Lam’s case.
The aforementioned security footage of Lam went CRAZY viral at the time. It’s one of the most bizarre and baffling parts of the case. Lam’s body would be found in a water tanks weeks after her disappearance when guests complained of the water coming out black and tasting funny.
Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel will be released on Netflix on Feb. 10.
