Star of The Umbrella Academy Elliot Page has come out as transgender and non-binary.

In a statement released on his Twitter, Page shared his new name along with that he uses he/they pronouns. Page wrote, “Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.”

Despite the overall celebratory tone of his open letter, Page also was cautious as well. The transgender community is at greater risk for prejudice and attacks against them. Well-known transgender actress Laverne Cox suffered a transphobic attack over the weekend.

Page closed his letter with, “To all the trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse, and the threat of violence every day: I see you, I love you, and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better. Thank you for reading this.”

Page, known for his work in films such as Juno and X-Men: Days of Future Past, recently starred in season two of The Umbrella Academy. Netflix has confirmed that Page will remain in his role on the series and has changed credits to reflect his name change on their platform.

On Instagram, Page’s wife, dancer Emma Portner, said, “I am so proud of @elliotpage. Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience & privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much.”

GLAAD’s director of transgender media, Nick Abrams, wrote on Page’s coming out, “Elliot Page has given us fantastic characters on-screen, and has been an outspoken advocate for all LGBTQ people. He will now be an inspiration to countless trans and non-binary people. All transgender people deserve the chance to be ourselves and to be accepted for who we are. We celebrate the remarkable Elliot Page today.”

We at 4 Your Excitement send our heartfelt congratulations to Elliot Page who is living his best and truest life!
