For the Glee fans of old, the approach of the Christmas season had us eagerly awaiting pics from Snixxmas – Naya Rivera’s annual holiday party. The fundraiser that collected toys for children in need was filled with “glitz, glamour and gay apparel,” shared Darren Criss. It allowed the cast and crew to come together one last time to celebrate and let their hair down before going home for the holidays. Now Christmas 2020 is certainly going to be very different for many of us, but Rivera’s former costars are not letting this first Christmas since Rivera’s passing go without marking the occasion and honouring their late friend.

“As the holiday season approaches we can’t help but reflect on the year that’s passed,” Kevin McHale begins the video that the former cast launched on Friday. “And this year the thing we’re thinking about most is our incredible friend Naya and the wonderful memories she’s left us with,” Jenna Ushkowitz added. “We loved Naya, as all of you did,” Dianna Agron said. “She made a massive impact on this world.”

Criss, McHale, Ushkowitz and Agron along with Chris Colfer, Matthew Morrison, Heather Morris, Becca Tobin and more cast and crew came together to launch a GoFundMe for Alexandria House, an organisation that Rivera had recently become involved with.

Alexandria House is a transitional house based in LA “that provides safe and supportive housing for women and children in the process of moving from emergency shelter to permanent housing,” as stated on its website. “Naya said that working with Alexandria House was the biggest blessing of her and Josey’s [her son] lives. She not only raised funds and donated she also volunteered her time,” Colfer stated.

“The connection I feel with [Alexandria House] and the people who reside and work there has been the biggest blessing and made such a huge positive impact on myself and my son. We truly have found a home away from home through the time we spend volunteering there,” Rivera is quoted on the GoFundMe page.

Team Snixxmas were aiming to raise $50,000 for the organisation. That goal was met in less than a day. In an update to the GoFundMe page, they announced that they had over 2000 donations from all around the world and due to the enormous generosity of everyone, they were upping their goal to $100,000. At the time of printing this, the total raised is just over $77,200.

However, the cast know that 2020 has hit a lot of us hard and that some fans may not be able to make a financial donation. They want everyone to “bring a little Snixxmas cheer into the lives of those in need”, and so encourage fans to “follow Naya’s lead and donate your time.”

“We are forever grateful to Naya’s friends and colleagues for having the desire to put such a beautiful fundraiser together,” her family said in a statement on the GoFundMe page. “Everyone will always be remembered and loved by her entire family. Naya loved Christmas and we are pleased to know that her Christmas parties left a lasting impression on all of our lives. This fundraiser is an extension of Naya’s love for families, children, and holidays. To honor her in this manner is evidence that her love for others is endlessly alive. On behalf of Naya and her son Josey, the family would like to donate items from her Jojo & Izzy clothing line. We appreciate all who continue to shine Naya’s love and light.”
