Society, scandals, and seduction, the trailer for Netflix’s upcoming Shonda Rhimes series Bridgerton has it all.
Helmed by Chris Van Dusen (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy) and based on a series of romance novels of the same name by Julia Quinn, Bridgerton follows the title family as they navigate the highs and lows of the marriage market in Regency England. With their every move documented by Lady Whistledown (narrated by Julia Andrews), a sort of Regency era Gossip Girl, the pressure is on the eldest daughter Daphne (Phoebe Dynover) to make a smart match in society debut.
When Daphne concocts a plan with an oh so dashing duke (Regé-Jean Page) who’s dismissive of marriage minded mothers to fake date each other in order to raise her prospects while keeping people off his back, things start to get a little…tricky so to speak. Anyone love a good fake dating trope? Then this show has it spades.
Bridgerton will make its own debut on Netflix on Christmas Day.
