Regina King’s One Night In Miami’s Trailer Brings Four Black Icons To Life

The excellent first trailer for Regina King’s directorial debut film One Night In Miami has dropped.

In the upcoming film, King tells the story of how, on Feb. 25, 1964, after a pre-Muhammad Ali Cassius Clay defeated Sonny Liston for the World Heavyweight Title, he celebrated his victory with none other than Civil Rights activist Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), football phenomenon Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge), and soul singer Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr).

Based on the Kemp Powers play of the same name (Powers also wrote the screenplay), the film shows the four share their struggles as public figures. While also discussing how to use their platforms in order to uplift Black people. It definitely looks like it’s going to be a powerful film.

(Seriously, is there anything that Regina King can’t do?)

One Night in Miami will be released to select theatres on Christmas Day. If you can’t to avoid the theatres because COVID, then be sure to stream it on Amazon on Jan. 15.
