Earlier this week saw fans of the hugely successful Star Wars series The Mandalorian get access to extra footage of Season 2, due to premier on Disney+ on 30th October.

Season one demonstrated the talents of Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal as well as film industry legends Werner Herzog and Carl Weathers. Each episode boasted a different director, from Taika Waititi to Bryce Dallas-Howard.

The new season will feature appearances from Timothy Oliphant (Justified), Rosario Dawson and Michael Biehn. The new footage also shows the Mandalorian going on a journey to bring the Child, the tiny alien creature he unwittingly adopted, back to its own kind after he saved its life.

Despite there being no mention at all of the iconic Star Wars character Yoda in the series, the internet christened the Child ‘baby Yoda’ due to its resemblance to the erstwhile Jedi Master’s species. The trailer hints further at the Mandalorian trying to find other members of his caste of bounty-hunters, while indicating the continuation of his partnership with former soldier Cara Dune, played by Gina Carano, and Greef Carga, the morally fluid head of the Bounty Hunter guild, played by Carl Weathers.

Season 1 of The Mandalorian was a huge success, helping to rapidly increase membership of Disney+ to over 60 million paid subscribers. Its success was attributed hugely to the presence of the Child, whose innocence, loyalty and talent with the Force led to considerable on-stream chemistry with the self-absorbed and distant mercenary, who is slowly changed through become an unlikely adoptive father. It inspired a devoted following online and has since led to talks of a third season being created.

A behind-the-scenes series, Gallery – Star Wars: The Mandalorian, was also released on Disney+, showing fans the creative and technical process behind the creation of the show.

The Mandalorian season 2 premieres on Disney+ on October 30.
