Netflix’s latest true crime doc is taking a uniquely heartbreaking way in one of the most horrific murders in recent American history.
In the trailer for American Murder: The Family Next Door, Jenny Popplewell focuses on the victims: 34-year-old Shannan Watts and her two young daughters. Shannan’s husband, Chris would eventually confess to the murders. In the film itself, the focus is on the police investigation into the case. Netflix claims that the doc “is the first film to give a voice to the victims”.
Along the way, filmmakers “explore entirely through archival footage, Shanann’s social media posts and self-shot videos, law enforcement recordings, text messages, and never-before-seen home videos from family and friends,” according to EW.
American Murder: The Family Next Door will be released on Netflix on Sept. 30.
