The CW has found success with superheroes as well as giving updates to classic childhood properties. So why not do something that combines both?
But, also, at what cost? Because this doesn’t sound like a great idea, guys.
According to EW, a live-action Powerpuff Girls series is in the works at the network from Diablo Cody (Juno) and Greg Berlanti (Arrowverse). The show will be written and executive produced by Cody and Heather Regnier (Veronica Mars).
What is the series about? Well expect the girls to be a) older and b) a bit more disillusioned with the world. Big mood, seriously.
“The Powerpuff Girls used to be America’s pint-sized superheroes. Now they’re disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime-fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?”
Currently, the series is just in development over at the network, so we’ll need to see where it goes from here. Honestly though, do we need another grim and gritty update of a childhood fave? Probably not. But the CW made it work with Nancy Drew, so who knows? Maybe it won’t be that bad.
Excuse us for being a little on the wary side though.
