Netflix released four first look images of the upcoming psychological thriller The Devil All The Time directed by Antonio Campos. The original series is based on the screenplay adaptation, written by Antonio and Paulo Campos.
It was announced that the film will premiere on the streaming platform in September – next month! To whet our appetite, we have been graced with the stills that Netflix has unveiled. Now we get to see Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson for the first time in character, along with the other cast members: Michael Banks Repeta, Jason Clarke, Bill Skasgård and Riley Keough.
The film is based on Donald Ray Pollock’s novel from 2011 and takes place in rural Ohio, “set between the end of World War II and the beginning of America’s involvement in Vietnam”, describes Campos to Entertainment Weekly. In a non-linear storyline, the film follows the characters, who suffer from the post-war damages.
Among these characters is the struggling orphan Arvin Russell, portrayed by Tom Holland. He told Entertainment Weekly that he was “really eager to work with Antonio because his previous films that I’ve seen are very raw, […] I guess it was the challenge of doing a different accent, playing the rural kid, a period film, a new director. Everything ticked the boxes for me.”
Other characters are a corrupt sheriff, serial-killer couple Carl and Sandy Henderson and false preacher Preston Teagardin (Pattinson). The cast also includes Sebastian Stan, Haley Bennett, Mia Wasikowska, Eliza Scanlen, Harry Melling and Pokey LaFarge.
The Devil All The Time premieres on Netflix, September 16 2020.
