The wildlife is revolting in the trailer for Disney+’s The One and Only Ivan. Good news, however, it’s not like a “kill all humans” revolt. It’s more of a “hey don’t keep wild animals inside of a mall” sort of revolt, which is probably something we can all get behind.
Based on the Newberry award winning novel by Katharine Applegate, The One and Only Ivan follows a 400 pound gorilla named Ivan (Sam Rockwell) who lives in a cramped habitat at a suburban mall with aging elephant Stella (Angelina Jolie) and dog Bob (Danny DeVito). When a new baby elephant named Ruby (Brooklynn Prince) arrives, however, it sets Ivan and the others on a quest to return Ruby to her home.
Which, yeah, get the baby back to her mom because this all feels real illegal.
Also starring in the film are Bryan Cranston as the owner of the mall, Ramón Rodriguez, and Eleanor Matsuura. Rounding out the voice cast is Helen Mirren, Chaka Khan, Philippa Soo, and Octavia Spencer.
The One and Only Ivan will stream exclusively on Disney+ on Aug. 14.
