Here’s the thing about Percy Jackson. The books? They’re fantastic and you should read them. The films? They’re, well, bad. Needless to say many fans breathed a sigh of relief when it was revealed that Disney+ is going to make a Percy Jackson television series.

Rick Riordan called the films his “life’s work going through a meat grinder” on Twitter. He promised that things will get better with the television series though.

“Well, to you guys, it’s a couple hours entertainment. To me, it’s my life’s work going through a meat grinder when I pleaded with them not to do it. So yeah. But it’s fine. All fine. We’re gonna fix it soon . . .”

While the Percy Jackson movies aren’t great, there is the musical version, which is actually worth checking out for fans of the books. Riordan would also go on to say while he doesn’t like the movies, he doesn’t blame the cast for what happened with them. (No one should.) He says the problem with the films comes down to story.

“I still have not seen the movies, and don’t plan on ever doing so. I judge them from having read the scripts, because I care most about the story. I certainly have nothing against the very talented actors. Not their fault. I’m just sorry they got dragged into that mess.”

Logan Lermann, who played Percy Jackson in the films, showed his support for the Disney+ series and the franchise. He also threw shade at the films saying that he hopes the Disney+ series is the “adaptation the books deserve”.
