We don’t know when a release date will be found for the film adaptation of the musical version of Dear Evan Hansen, but there’s some cast news.
According to Deadline, Kaitlyn Dever (Unbelievable) is in talks to star in the film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical. Dever would play Zoe, the love interest to Evan in the musical. While talks could break down, people are optimistic a deal can be worked out.
Ben Platt, who originated the role on Broadway back in 2015, is expected to return as the socially awkward Evan Hansen in the film.
Dear Evan Hansen follows the title character after he gets trapped in a lie that he was close to a classmate, Connor, who committed suicide. Zoe, coincidentally, is Connor’s sister, who is struggling in the wake of her brother’s death. Things, of course, get away from Evan rather quickly.
Stephen Chbosky, author of The Perks of Being A Wallflower, is set to direct the film, which was announced back in 2018. Steven Levenson, who wrote the book of Dear Evan Hansen, returns to write the script. Benji Pasek and Justin Paul, who wrote the songs, will executive produce.
