Batwoman To Replace Kate Kane With New Character In Season 2

With Ruby Rose’s shocking departure from Batwoman, a void has to be filled. Many just assumed, based on what was coming out from The CW, that the role of Kate Kane would be recast with a different actor. What the Batwoman crew apparently landed on, however, was a whole new character to pick up the mantle.

According to EW, a casting notice was found on Reddit for a character for Batwoman named Ryan Wilder. The role encourages LGBTQ+ actors to audition, looking for a female in her mid-late 20s. Ryan is described as being vastly different from Kate Kane.

“She’s likable, messy, a little goofy, and untamed. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. Today, reformed and sober, Ryan lives in van with her plant. A girl who would steal milk from an alley cat and could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly disciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical All-American hero.”

Legacy is built in the core of the Batwoman series. Kate picks up the legacy from Bruce Wayne. Now with whatever happening to Kate happening, it looks like this Ryan will pick up Kate’s legacy for herself. So it will definitely be interesting to see where it goes with a new character in the cowl.

Batwoman season two will premiere in Jan 2021 on Sundays at 8/7c on The CW.
