Oh John Constantine. Will the wonders of your dating life ever cease to amaze us?
For those of you who are curious, Matt Ryan, who has become the definitive portrayer of everyone’s favorite bastard man magic user, returned to voice the character in the animated, Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.
Whether or not you’ve seen it is immaterial because the big thing that people are taking away from is that John Constantine has dated King Shark. And money is on him bottoming for King Shark. For fans of the character, I’m sure you’re feeling just as amused and the least surprised as I did when I saw said clip.
A random tidbit like that is the same sort of weirdness that’ll pop on Legends of Tomorrow.
Talking with CBR, Ryan discussed the now infamous scene.
“What’s funny is we all love John Constantine and we love him for being who he is: a working-class, blue-collar street magician with a crass tongue and a sharp wit… and he just might leave you dead. But on the original TV show, we caught a stink from some people about him not being bisexual. But what was interesting was we hadn’t gotten that far in the time frame we were given. So who’s to say we wouldn’t have?”
He continued, “In [DC’s Legends of Tomorrow], then, he’s obviously bisexual and, with King Shark, he’s obviously ‘bi-special.’ So, Constantine is the most open, liberated person on the planet. I don’t know the logistics of how that works but I just guffawed when I was reading it. I was like, ‘Oh, that’s brilliant!”
We don’t know what to say anymore except you can buy Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.
