Director Robert Rodriguez gave fans their first look at season two of The Mandalorian. In an Instagram post to celebrate Star Wars Day (May 4), he posted, “I am truly humbled to say I have now had the very rare privilege of directing the biggest star in the universe.”
Baby Yoda looks to be sitting in Mando’s ship with his favorite toy in his lap. So Mando is still the best dad in the galaxy in season two. Not much else is known about the upcoming season though and Disney is keeping everything under tight guard.
The Mandalorian’s producer, Dave Filoni, has remained cagey about the rumors of new characters and actors joining the show. Among those names is Rosario Dawson, who is believed to have joined the cast as Ahsoka Tano. Ahsoka was Anakin’s Skywalker’s Padawan in The Clone Wars animated series. But Filoni isn’t confirming anything.
“All those rumors,” he said. “Over the years people have always asked me about that character and potential live-action possibilities. It’s a real credit to the animation team and everybody that’s been involved with her over the years to make a character that fans say, ‘Hey, that would be great. We would want to see that’… The great thing about the character is she’s proved herself and earned her place among the Star Wars leads out there. So whatever the future holds, who knows?”
We do know that the pre-production of season three (yes, you read that right) is already underway for The Mandalorian. Jon Favreau has reportedly been “writing season three for a while” and several behind-the-scenes teams, including the art department and production design, have already begun work for season 3.
Season two of The Mandalorian is set to air sometime in October 2020 only on Disney+.
