With theatre fans having very little to look forward to at the moment, Lin-Manuel Miranda has sprinkled a little bit of pixie dust with the help of Disney Plus.
It was previously announced that a performance of Hamilton starring the Original Broadway cast which had been filmed in 2015 would be released in movie theatres on October 15, 2021.
Earlier today, the star took to Twitter to announce that the eagerly awaited performance which will star Miranda as the eponymous founding father will be released worldwide on July 3 on the streaming platform. What better date to relive the beauty of the multi award winning musical than July 4 weekend.
It’s only a matter of time…

Speaking of the new release date, Miranda said;
“I’m so proud of how beautifully Tommy Kail has brought ‘Hamilton’ to the screen. He’s given everyone who watches this film the best seat in the house. I’m so grateful to Disney and Disney Plus for reimagining and moving up our release to July 4 weekend of this year, in light of the world turning upside down. I’m so grateful to all the fans who asked for this, and I’m so glad that we’re able to make it happen. I’m so proud of this show. I can’t wait for you to see it.”
Fans around the world couldn’t contain their excitement and who can blame them. Even if you have been lucky enough to see Hamilton; the fact that we will be able to watch the Original Broadway Cast, which includes Christopher Jackson as George Washington, Leslie Odom Jr as Aaron Burr and In The Heights star Anthony Ramos Jr as Lawrence/Philip and Daveed Diggs as Lafayette/Jefferson and Jonathan Groff as King George III, the worldwide theatre community has been given something to look forward to.
Hamilton will stream on Disney Plus worldwide from July 4.
