The cast of NBC‘s Parks And Recreation will be returning to the screen for a one-off, said a Hollywood Reporter story yesterday. The half-hour special will be airing on April 30th in order to help raise funds for Feeding America‘s COVID-19 Response Fund.
The special will join Pawnee’s very own Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) as she deals with social distancing and keeps connected with her friends and colleagues during the pandemic.
The core cast will all be involved – Amy Poehler, Adam Scott, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Aziz Ansari, Rashida Jones, Nick Offerman, Retta, Rob Lowe and Jim O’Heir. NBC have said that other faces from the show may well also be making an appearance.
The special has been written by several Parks and Recreation writers along with co-creator Mike Schur.
Feeding America helps to secure funding for food banks so they can support the most vulnerable in their communities. The need for their services has grown massively during the pandemic, with many more households suddenly finding themselves without the means to feed their families.
State Farms and Subaru are sponsoring the fundraising and will each provide donation matching to the tune of $150,000. Along with NBC, and Parks And Recreation‘s cast and producers, a total of $500,000 in donation matching will be provided through to May 21st.
“Like a lot of other people, we were looking for ways to help and felt that bringing these characters back for a night could raise some money.” Mike Schur said in a statement on Thursday.
“I sent a hopeful email to the cast and they all got back to me within 45 minutes. Our old Parks and Rec team has put together one more 30-minute slice of (quarantined) Pawnee life, and we hope everyone enjoys it. And donates!”
Co-presidents of scripted programming at NBC, Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta added “In such uncertain times, we can’t think of anyone better than Leslie Knope to unite our country with her unbridled enthusiasm and compassion. A huge thank you to Mike Schur and the cast of Parks and Recreation for putting this wonderful special together and bringing a smile to all our faces while raising money for such a worthwhile cause.”
