Damien Chazelle has explored a toxic music conservatory experience in Whiplash and turned Hollywood into a full on musical with La La Land, now he tackles the underground jazz scene for Netflix’s The Eddy.
Netflix released the first trailer for the highly anticipated project. The eight-part drama follows Elliot Udo (Andre Holland), a once celebrated New York jazz pianist struggling to keep his Paris nightclub, The Eddy, running. His business partner Farid (Tahar Rahim) made some shady dealings with shadier people and now they owe money to them. On top of it, Elliot can’t go to the police or else they’ll shut The Eddy down. Yikes, talk about complicated.
Oh yeah, it’s more complicated than all that. Elliot’s daughter Julie (Amandla Stenberg) comes to live with him. So there’s that.
Joanna Kulig, Leïla Bekhti, Melissa George, Adil Dehbi, Benjamin Biolay, Tchéky Karyo, and Sopico round out the cast of this eight-part limited series.
The Eddy hits Netflix on May 8.
