If you’re hoping for more comic/graphic novel series to head to Netflix, then good news for you! According to Variety, Netflix has signed a first look television deal with BOOM! Studios to develop live-action and animated series for the streaming giant. Now this deal is only for television as BOOM! has a first look deal for film with 20th Century/Disney through 2021.
BOOM! Studios is a comic and graphic novel publisher whose library includes Lumberjanes, Giant Days, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Feathers, The Unsound, and more.
It’s a logical extension of the working relationship between the two companies. Currently, there’s a feature film development of The Unsound while the two collaborated on a tie-in for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. BOOM! also has a solid library full of comics of new and existing properties ripe for a new adaptation.
We really want that Lumberjanes TV series, people. We really, really, really, really want it so bad.
Brian Wright, VP of original series over Netflix, said of the deal, “BOOM! characters are innately special, they’re colorful, diverse and varied and their stories have the power to ignite something in all of us. We can’t wait to bring these stories from the page to the screen to fans in every corner of the world.”
And who knows! Disney pulled that plug on Mouse Guard, but maybe Netflix will revive it. The world is an oyster and we have a wishlist.
