Leonardo da Vinci is probably one of the most well-known painters there is, and his portrait of “Mona Lisa” is the most famous portraits in the world. Nevertheless, he was not just a painter, but also an inventor, and a war engineer among many other things he took an interest in.
It is no surprise that da Vinci was the center of quite a few TV shows and movies in the past. Though not just in the past, but in the future as well, as there is also another Leonardo da Vinci coming our way.
Leonardo is starring Aidan Turner (Poldark, The Hobbit) as Leonardo da Vinci and “is set to unlock the mystery of one of the most fascinating and enigmatic people in history — a man whose genius and work is globally known and yet whose true character remains a tantalizing secret,” which The Hollywood Reporter described.
In the first image released of the upcoming show and which The Hollywood Reporter released as well, Turner can be seen as Leonardo examining a portrait. While we can see a little bit more of Turner as da Vinci in the first 30-second clip of Leonardo. We also get a first glimpse of da Vinci’s portrait “The Last Supper”, which he is being commissioned to paint in the TV series.
Alongside Turner, Giancarlo Giannini (Family Novel, Catch-22) stars as Leonardo’s master, Andrea del Verrocchio, and Matilda De Angelis (The Undoing) plays Caterina da Cremona, da Vinci’s dearest friend, and mysterious muse. Freddie Highmore (The Good Doctor, Bates Motel) plays Stefano Giraldi, a young detective of the Podestà in charge of solving the central mystery.
The show is being produced by Lux Vide with RAI Fiction and Big Light Productions in association with France Télévisions and RTVE, and co-produced and distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures Television.
It is set to be released in 2021.
