American Idiot was not just Green Day’s politically charged and defining album about living in the Bush era United States. It was also a Broadway show, and one that is pretty fondly remembered. Believe it or not, it’s been 10 years since American Idiot made its Broadway debut.
That’s right. American Idiot debuted on Broadway on April 20, 2010. Now the original cast has gathered to virtually salute the milestone. These original cast members, who include John Gallagher Jr., Rebecca Naomi Jones, Michael Esper, Christina Sajous, and others, got together and sang “21 Guns” (you can listen to the original cast singing back in the day above), which was beautifully done. Check it out below.
EW released the first look at the virtual performance, which was done for a charitable reason. It was organized to also encourage donations for the organization Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Fund. It was created to help entertainment pros onstage and behind the scenes who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
