It’s time to meet Devi, the gods’ favorite Hindu girl in the San Fernando Valley, or so she prays to them during her first day of school “check in” in the teaser for Mindy Kaling’s upcoming Netflix series, Never Have I Ever.
Played by newcomer Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Devi is described as “an overachieving high school sophomore who has a short fuse that gets her into difficult situations.” Never Have I Ever is described as a “coming-of-age comedy about the complicated life of a modern-day first-generation Indian American teenage girl.”
It will be interesting to see where the series will go. Though, based on the teaser, we’re already enjoying Ramakrishnan’s performance. This will definitely mark her as a rising star because she’s ridiculous charming and fun to watch on screen.
Never Have I Ever is one of several series that Kaling’s worked on the in the past couple of years. Following the six-season run of The Mindy Project, Kaling has done the miniseries Four Weddings and a Funeral for Hulu, the short-lived Champions on NBC, and the upcoming HBO Max project, College Girls.
Never Have I Ever hits Netflix on Monday, April 27.
