If you’re properly social distancing and staying inside, you probably need new content to keep you busy. Luckily, the creator of Rick and Morty has a new animated series coming to Hulu in just six weeks.
If you’re a fan of Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites, the product of Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan, is right up your alley. The official synopsis is: “A team of four aliens have escaped their exploding home world, only to crash land into a move-in ready home in suburban America. They are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome. Korvo (Justin Roiland) and Yumyulack (Sean Giambroni) only see the pollution, crass consumerism, and human frailty, while Terry (Thomas Middleditch) and Jesse (Mary Mack) love humans and all their TV, junk food, and fun stuff. Their mission: protect the Pupa, a living supercomputer that will one day evolve into its true form, consume them and terraform the Earth.”
From the teaser trailer, it looks like there are also a lot of murdered birds, some fairly apt commentary on Earth and the people who inhabit it, and a major apocalypse in store complete with zombies and general fire-y destruction. This isn’t an animated show for little kids or anyone expecting a generally merry time. If you’ve ever seen Rick and Morty, you have a pretty good idea of what Solar Opposites has to offer and who it appeals to.
Speaking about the series, Roiland and McMahan said, “We can only show you the teaser right now, but the whole season will be out in a matter of weeks! Stay inside and stay healthy so you can watch and love this show and call us geniuses and all that s—.”
Solar Opposites hits Hulu on May 8.
