Prepare to lose your goddamn minds, musical theatre nerds.
Hamilton is coming to theatres! Before you freak out thinking that it’s a full adaptation of the beloved 2016 musical, it’s not.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Hamilton will be a “live-capture” performance of the original cast doing what they do best. Miranda expressed his wish of doing something like this for years. It looks like Disney is more than happy enough to oblige him.
Now, apparently, the footage used will be the filmed performances with the original cast from a couple years ago. Miranda made sure to make it happen and “vaulted” the footage until a time where it could be used.
That’s right. This is with the OG cast. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Leslie Odom Jr, Phillipa Soo, Daveed Diggs, Anthony Ramos, Christopher Jackson, Jasmine Cephas-Jones, Jonathan Groff, and Okieriete Onaodowan.
Talking with Variety, Miranda said, “What I’m most excited about [is] you all have that friend that is like, ‘I saw it with the original cast.’ We’re stealing that brag from everyone because you’re all going to see it with the original cast. We’re just trying to find the right time to do it.”
Miranda announced #Hamilfilm on Twitter along with its released date.
