Doctor Who fans are in for one wild ride as we get into the season 12 finale on Sunday, Feb. 23.

Of course, however, fans are already wondering what season 13 is going to look like. Lucky for fans, they can get an idea because showrunner Chris Chibnall confirms to EW that he’s returning for season 13.

“I do know I’m coming back for a third season. Yeah, absolutely. We are already planning the stories. Once you see the end of this series, you’ll realize there are some stories we’re already setting in train for next series. We have very big, ambitious plans for our third series together.”

As for when fans will see episodes, Chibnall said that it will be sooner than the gap between season 11 and 12.

“It will be next year sometime, hopefully, unless my holiday goes on for a really long time, which is always tempting.”

This tracks with Jodie Whittaker confirmed as well. She’s down for one more season of playing the titular character. Most Doctor Who actors in the “New Who” era tend to do about three seasons. So it definitely tracks, but who knows Whittaker could keep on going.

Doctor Who airs Sundays on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US.
