ABC has founds its next live musical event. For fans of Mel Brooks, this will be a treat.
Instead of dipping into the Disney catalogue, Young Frankenstein will be the next musical. Mel Brooks will produce the special for ABC. Young Frankenstein, the musical, is based off Brooks’ famous 1974 film, which is a comedic reimagining of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
Young Frankenstein ran on both Broadway and the West End along with various touring productions. It was nominated for both Tony and Olivier Awards, though it won none of them. The ABC production will feature the music from the original production.
Currently casting is unknown at this time. We’d love to see Sutton Foster, Megan Mullaly, and Roger Bart be involved in some way as they originated the musical version of the roles: Inga, Elizabeth, and Frederick Frankenstein.
Young Frankenstein Live! currently has no airdate.
