The Batman will begin production later this years. While fans are excited to see Matt Reeves’ “grounded” take on the classic comic character, we have some questions about casting.
Namely, there are some actors who we don’t officially know the identity of yet. One of them was Colin Farrell.
Until Reeves confirmed on Twitter that Farrell is, in fact, playing Oswald Cobblepot aka the Penguin. The tweet has a gif of Farrell in the film, In Bruges, with the text reading: “Wait — is that you, #Oz?”
Oz, of course, is a shortened form of Oswald. Even though many people speculated that Farrell was going to play Penguin in the film. This is the officially confirmation that we’ve been waiting for.
In addition to Farrell’s Cobblepot, The Batman will star Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Selena Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Peter Sarsgaard in an undisclosed role.
Filming will commence this year for a June 25, 2021 release date.
