The 2020 Oscar Nominations Are Out: Joker, The Irishman, And Once Upon A Time In Hollywood Lead The Nods

It’s almost time for one of our favourite nights and awards show of the year, Oscar night. As Hollywood’s most important night as far as the film awards season goes, the Oscars celebrate the best that cinemas had to offer in the past year. We may be weeks away until we get to enjoy the fabulous red carpet and the show,  luckily, the 92nd Academy Award nominations have been announced.

The folks in the West Coast  got an early start as the nominations for all 24 categories were announced from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. John Cho of Star Trek Beyond and Issa Rae of Insecure revealed contenders for the 24 categories in an event streamed live on various internet platforms.

Joker dominated with the highest number of nominations (11 in total), including for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Lead Actor. It was followed by Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Sam Mendes’ 1917, who all tied for the second most nominations with 10 each.

Diversity continues to be an issue as once again, in the directing field, no women were nominated and POCs were mostly shut of all major categories save Best Actress.

Check out the nominees below and see if your favorites made the cut!

For the second year in a row, the host-less 92nd annual Oscars ceremony will be televised on Sunday, Feb. 9 in Hollywood on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
