Reese Witherspoon And Kerry Washington Ignite In Trailer For Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere

Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington are going head to head in the first teaser from Hulu’s adaptation of Celeste Ng’s Little Fires Everywhere.

It starts with, of course, a fire at the picture perfect Richardson house. Concerning is that someone set the blaze with Elena Richardson (Witherspoon) still inside. In order to see how we got to this point, then we need to go back in time when Mia Warren (Washington) and her daughter (Lexi Underwood) moved to the mostly white Ohio town, upending Elena’s idyllic suburbia.

Mia’s also hiding something or running from something that has to do with wealthy Wall Street businessman, Joe Ryan (Jesse Williams). As tensions rise, the flames both literal and metaphorical start to burn real hot, real fast.

The trailer shows a great chemistry between Witherspoon and Washington. Honestly, we’re hoping to see the duo in more projects.

On wanting Washington for the role, Witherspoon told the TCA.

“When I read the book, it just had so many themes that were very complex and I knew whoever was going to be my partner… who was going to show up to do the work because it’s a lot of work. The first person who I thought was perfect was Kerry. She deepens the conversation and I knew I wanted to go on this journey with her. It just made sense that we were representing completely different kinds of women and different kinds of mothering but both with dignity and respect.”

Washington also said they were able to expand on things as well.

“Adding the layer of race to that really enriches the storytelling. The book also deals with race and does a great job of stepping away from the binary idea of race.”

Little Fires Everywhere will debut on Hulu on March 18. Watch the trailer above.
