So get ready for some serious Inception level meta-ness going on her, people.
If you haven’t lived under a rock for most of your life, then you would know of the 2004 masterpiece Mean Girls. Written by Tina Fey and starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams, it has remained a staple of high school movies and beloved ever since. Endlessly quotable and relatable, it wasn’t a surprised when Mean Girls received the Broadway treatment in 2018.
Now, apparently, in a weird full circle movie, Mean Girls is getting made. Not a remake of the movie, but the stage musical will be adapted into the film.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Paramount is producing Mean Girls the musical the movie.
In a statement, Fey said, “I’m very excited to bring Mean Girls back to the big screen. It’s been incredibly gratifying to see how much the movie and the musical have meant to audiences. I’ve spent 16 years with these characters now. They are my Marvel Universe and I love them dearly.”
There’s currently no release date for the project.
