Former Batman Christian Bale is eyeing a return to the superhero genre, but not with DC.
Reportedly, Bale is in talks with Marvel for a role in the upcoming Thor: Love & Thunder. Collider first reported the news of Bale’s potential involvement earlier on Monday, Jan. 6. Believe it or not, this is something of rarity. Actors have moved from Marvel to DC, but rarely vice versa.
Bale played Bruce Wayne/Batman in The Dark Night trilogy, which was directed by Christoper Nolan.
Thor: Love & Thunder will be the fourth Thor film. It will have Taika Waititi return to pen and direct after his stellar work in 2017’s Thor: Rangarok. Thor: Love & Thunder will also see the return of Natalie Portman, who will play Jane Foster and, like her comic counterpart, become the new Thor.
Chris Hemsworth will also reprise his role as Thor (or Odinson as he was known in the comics). Tessa Thompson will reprise her role as Valkyrie, who was named King of Asgard at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Waititi will also reprise his role as the affable rock alien Korg.
No word has been given as to Bale’s character. Fans are hoping, however, that Bale will play Beta Ray Bill. Who is Beta Ray Bill? He’s a horselike alien from the Burning Galaxy, who was worthy to wield Mjolnir. You know Stormbreaker? The thing that Thor wielded in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame? Yeah that’s supposed to be Bill’s.
Beta Ray Bill is a fan favorite character and people have been dying to get him into the MCU for years. We believe that Waititi is weird and wonderful enough to do Bill justice.
Thor: Love & Thunder will commence filming later in 2020 for a Nov. 5, 2021 release.
