Summertime will have fans of the eighties film Top Gun flying high as its sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, is slated to make its premiere in theaters at that time. Monday morning brought us some good news on that front as a new trailer was released.
Tom Cruise is featured heavily in the latest trailer (naturally) as he reprises his role as the original’s hotshot and fearless pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. The sequel takes place several decades later as Mitchell, now a captain, has been tasked to teaching the latest aviators how to fly high.
Joining Cruise is Miles Teller as Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s late best friend Goose who died in the original film. Judging by the looks of this current trailer, it is safe to say he’s no fan of Mitchell. Maverick will definitely have his hands full with this one and his classmates.
Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer are also in the cast with Kilmer reprising his role as Maverick’s arch rival Iceman.
Check out the trailer below and the official synopsis!
After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late best friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.”
Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it
Top Gun: Maverick will hit theaters on June 26, 2020.
