Shazam Sequel Has Been Greenlit At Warner Bros

2019’s Shazam was a surprise hit for DC and Warner Bros. Or, maybe, after the early failures of the DCEU, we’re just surprised when we see genuine success.

Ether way, Shazam proved to be solid family entertainment with twin charming leads in Zachary Levi and Asher Angel as Shazam and his alter ego Billy Batson. It did great at the box office. Not Aquaman numbers, but pretty good.

With The Flash landing a 2022 release along with Aquaman 2 being in the works for awhile, it’s not surprise that Shazam has also joined the list of recent DC films. According to Entertainment WeeklyShazam 2 will be released on April 1, 2022.

Yes, it will be April Fool’s Day. Given the humor of the first film, we’re not surprised by that. It will also be four months after Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson solo Black Adam film will be released (December 2021).

Zachary Levi will be back to star as the title character. Given how much time passes in universe, we’re assuming Asher Angel and the other kids will return as well.

Currently no plot details are known at this time. It’s also unknown if Johnson will play Black Adam in Shazam 2 as Black Adam is the greatest nemesis of Shazam.

Shazam 2 will be released on April 1, 2022.
