RuPaul is set to make his lead debut. The drag superstar and iconic has lined up his first leading role in a TV series with Netflix’s AJ and the Queen.
RuPaul plays Robert, whose drag alter ego Ruby Red is a popular queen, but dreams of opening his own drag club. After his boyfriend (Josh Segarra) and a one-eyed woman (Tia Carrere) make off with his life-savings, Robert finds himself on a cross-country Ruby Red road show.
Joining him on the trip, however, is stowaway A.J. (Izzy G), who wants to hitch a ride with Robert to Texas. Along the way, the two get into misadventures all while Robert tries to figure out how to parent.
The majority of the supporting cast come from Drag Race. It’s a star-studded affair with 22 former contestants coming aboard in recurring and guest roles. The cast includes Bianca Del Rio, Jujubee, Valentina, Eureka O’Hara, Pandora Boxx, Jade Jolie, Kennedy Davenport, Chad Michaels, Jaymes Mansfield, Latrice Royale, and Trinity The Tuck. That’s not everyone, of course, with other Drag Race contestants filling out guest spots.

A.J. and the Queen will hit Netflix on Friday, Jan. 10.
