Netflix’s Figure Skating Drama Spinning Out Releases Trailer

Anyone who watched The Cutting Edge or knows of Tonya Harding will tell you, figure skating is intense and dramatic. It looks like Netflix is more than ready to capitalize on that drama with its latest drama, Skating Out.

The series follows rising start in the single skate Kat Baker (Kaya Scodelario) who finds herself ready to unlace her skates for good following a bad fall. Opportunity knocks, however, when she’s given a chance to join the partner skate with “bad boy” Justin (Evan Roderick).

The dark ice-skating drama has it all January Jones channeling Betty Draper: skate mom, Justin comparing Kate’s old skating vids to his porn, Johnny Weir flashing them crazy eyes, secrets, and Kat’s addiction to pills. So, clearly, this is a very happy sort of show.

Jonathan Van Ness, Willow Shields, Sarah Wright Olsen, Will Kemp, Kaitlyn Leeb, Amanda Zhou, and Mitchell Edwards are also in the cast. Spinning Out comes from Samantha Stratton (Mr. Mercedes), who will co-showrun the series with Lara Olsen (Reign).

Spinning Out will hit Netflix on Jan. 1, 2020.
