Crisis On Infinite Earths Boss And Star Talk Working With Tom Welling And The Smallville Twist

Crisis On Infinite Earths has many cameos within this epic crossover event that spends literal worlds. One that had fans most excited was those of Tom Welling and Erica Durance, or Clark Kent and Lois Lane of Smallville.

The decade long series followed Clark Kent and his adventures in the years leading up to his becoming Superman. The finale of series saw him suiting up (kind of, the suit was CGI) for the first time. This cameo in Crisis Of Infinite Earths let fans know just where Clark and Lois are today.

The answer? Happily married with daughters and living on the farm in Smallville. Clark used the gold kryptonite from the series in order to give up his powers to have the family life he always wanted.

Talking with Entertainment WeeklyCrisis On Infinite Earths boss Marc Guggenheim said that Welling thought this was perfection.

““He was like, ‘I love this.’ He basically said to me, ‘You guys have basically written the one scene that I can’t say no to,’ which was really really nice.”

Jon Cryer, who plays Lex Luthor on Supergirl, got to work with Welling in the episode. Lex stole the Book of Destiny and was hoping from universe to universe in order to kill all versions of Superman. He pretty much had a lot of fun shooting the scene.

“Nobody told me. I actually had to read it on Twitter that Tom was coming back, because I had not read the scripts yet for ‘Crisis.’ I was so hoping that my character got to interact with him. Then to find out that not only do I get a chance to interact but that’s the whole crux of the scene, I considered it a huge honor because Smallville was an absolutely amazing piece of work in terms of reimagining a character. I still think Michael Rosenbaum’s Lex is certainly the best Lex that has been on television, probably the best portrayal of Lex that I’ve seen. Just to be part of that legacy was very cool for me.”

Many fans thought the little epilogue to the popular series which pretty much birthed Arrow and the Arrowverse was a sweet little capper. It’s good to see that Clark and Lois had their happening ending.

Crisis on Infinite Earths returns with “Part 4” and “Part 5” on Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow on January 14 at 8/7c and 9/8c on the CW.
